Despite all the new technology and gadgets such as television, computer, laptop, mobile phone, ipod, ps2, ps3, psp etc. and the increase of couch potatoes, traditional Filipino games are still played by kids of today especially in the province. These Filipino games include the following:
1. Bulong-pari or whisper it to the priest.
2. Kapitang bakod or hold on to the fence.
3. Luksong tinik or jump over the thorns.
4. Langit-lupa or heaven and earth.
5. Patintero or try to cross my line without letting me to touch or catch you.
6. Taguan or hide and seek
7. Takip-silim or twilight game, look out, cover yourself.
8. Ubusan-lahi or game of conquer.
9. Teks or texted game cards.
10. Tumbang preso and more.
When I went home last New Year 2009, I watched the kids playing traditional games. I even enjoyed by just watching them and was bringing back memories of the past.
Luksong-tinik- Two players serve as the base of the tinik(thorn) by putting their right or left feet together(sole touching gradually building the tinik).
A starting point is set by all the players, giving enough runaways for the players to achieve a higher jump, so as not to hit the tinik.
Tumbang preso- is an easy game to play. There needs to be an "it" player or the defender of the can. The "it" will then defend the can from other players to prevent them from knocking it down.
Players usually use slippers when playing tumbang preso.
As the "it", you'd end up returning the can over and over again until you get lucky and tag a new "it".
Kids even play the High jump.
It is actually an athletics even in which competitors must just over a horizontal bar placed at measured heights without the aid of any devices.
It has been contested since the Olympic Games of ancient Greece.

Dapat dito ang comment kong iyon. Haha. Pero first pa rin ako. Woohoo!
Nakalimutan mo ang chinese garter, nanay tatay, at bahay bahayan! Tradisyon na yun eh. Haha.
Ang mga bata ngayon puro techy na! Haha.

Chinese garter, wahhahaha... magaling ako diyan noon, oo nga no, kakamiss ang games noon, even when i was in college, our hi-way is conducive for patintero, we still played. Nowadays, my child doesn't know any of these games anymore.

Shatong, ano yun @ Blue Rose. hehehe.
Haha Magaling ka mag tumbling @ Sheng. Maswerte ang mga bata ngayon. Marami na ang high tech na laruan. At least, may option sila.
Inspired. Magandang sign yan sa bagong taon. Keep it up. Thanks so much!
Paborito namin dati agawan base at saka bahay bahayan. kase ako nanay, tapos yung crush ko yung tatay! hahaahha!!
:DD Saka yung luksong baka. Masaya pero mahirap. hihih
I must admit na kina-reer ko ang patintero tsaka tamaantao... im a pro! hehehe
my favorite is teks!!! kahong kahong teks ang meron ako dati! hehehe
paborito ko shatong, patintero at taguan. Walang wala ang mga laro ngaun, i still prefer those games talaga.
Those games you mentioned don't need any gadgets so it's easy for kids to play them. Nowadays, though, over here kids are so spoiled with computer games, arcade games, pinball machines, and other gizmos. The only other games that are physical in activities are the ballgames, like, basketball, baseball, badminton, and etc. These ones are good activities for children.
These games should well be treasured.
I wanna play this with those kids. galing basi daya-an ko nila. lol!
awww, i played all of these when i was growing up! kids nowadays doesn't know what they're missing! these were a lot of fun! inexpensive, good exercise and does not require any batteries.
Saya balikan. hehehe
Grabe ha, tekx collector ka pala @ Bry.
Those were the days @ Mrs. T.
Good exercise yung mga basketball, badminton etc @ Mari.
Thanks Hapi. Ill visit your blog.
Kapag nagtitipun tipon yan ang nilalaro nila. Yung TV pang gabi lang sa kanila. Mas energetic sila. Ang kukulit! @ Dong.
Sarap maglaro @ Allen
May tama ka @ Nance.
Saya balikan @ RJ no?
Nakakamiss yung childhood. I enjoyed piko, sipa bola and chinese garter before. =)
walang jolens and sipa :P
Nowadays the kids here do not have the luxury of playing outdoor like my time. With too much time spending on homeworks plus enrichment classes, it's no wonder the kids in Singapore are not so active and robust anymore. Their play thing is mostly electronics which can be played in the comfort of aircon at home!
Your childhood fathered a good man, Redlan.
great post. love the last shot.
Love the names of your games. The simplest games are often the best, don't you think?
I'm glad you posted this. Rarely do I find Pinoy kids doing these games in the city. Even in some provinces in Mindanao I visited recently, I haven't seen kids playing traditional games. I always wish this could be incorporated again in schools as they really get kids active - as opposed to sitting hours on end playing PSP.
These sound like fun games. These types of games are so much more fun than computer games. I like the last photo in your shoot. very good.
Beautiful memories. I love these posts! I learn so much.
Thanks for playing this week ♥
It's too bad kids think they are bored these days when they aren't entertained by electronics. Your games sound fun!
Thank you for the games write up - I think we all make up games as kids, but not so much now with electronic games. And don't sweat the dating life, you'll meet someone unexpectedly
