TODAY'S GOSPEL

I just attended a mass an hour ago. And I want to share to you the Gospel today.

Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer greatly from the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised.

Then Peter took Jesus aside and began to rebuke him, "God forbid, Lord! No such thing shall ever happen to you."

He turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are an obstacle to me. You are thinking not as God does, but as human beings do."

Then Jesus said to his disciples, "Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. What profit would there be for one to gain the whole world can one give in exchange for his life?

"For the Son of Man will come with his angels in his Father's glory, and then he will repay all according to his conduct."

HAVE A BLESSED SUNDAY TO ALL!

JANIUAY CHURCH

To complete the set of historical churches in Panay which I found on the page of the PLDT phone directory, I visited Janiuay FOR THE FIRST TIME(showing na) last Sunday. Needless to say that there are more historical churches aside from those churches that PLDT featured. Pepe even told me that with those historical churches, he thought that Spaniards stayed long in Panay which I agreed. By the way, Pepe is originally from Janiuay but he is recently working in Downunder.

Even in its ruined state, the ancient church of Janiuay overshadows the new church built beside it.

What is left indicates that the church was conceived as a Neoclassical structure with engaged columns and pilasters of coral stone alternating with clean brick walls ornamented by arched opening.

The Hiligaynon version of THE TEN COMMANDMENTS.

The new built church beside the old church

The adoration chapel

SWEET SUGAR APPLE

I love to eat fruits ( of course the edible fruits. Like what Angelo said, one of PDA little dreamers. He wants to have all toys. Hindi yung pambabae because he is a boy). But almost all my friends don't like to eat sugar apple (Atis). According to them, it has a lot of seeds that's why they don't like it. The edible portion coats the seeds. I remembered my bestfriend, Marigold everytime I eat sugar apple. I do remember people by the things they don't like. It is because I love to tease or insit with the things or their less favorite.

This week theme recycle or repurpose in Mixed Media Monday. I remembered Marigold when I saw a plastic of sugar apple's seeds. I missed her and I created my entry for her. You can check my other blog to see the artwork I made and dedicated for my bestfriend.

I'll visit your blog later tonight. Have a wonderful tuesday to all!

THE NEWEST SEARCH ENGINE

A web search engine is a search engine designed for the information on the internet. It operates algorithmically or a mixture of algorithmic and human input. It works by storing information about many web pages. It is very helpful to those who search for any information online. Most students are dependent on searching their assignments, school paper and thesis on internet nowadays. It is easy to search anything through search engine indeed.

When a user enters a query into a search engine, the engine examines its index and provides a listing of best-matching web pages accordingly to its criteria. It contains the document’s title and sometimes parts of the text. RankNoodle.com is one of the relevant and popular search engines. It provides best results. I tried to search my name and it gave the result directly to my webpage. You can try it yourself.

HOW TO BECOME A LIFELONG LEARNER

It's special holiday today. Actually it was yesterday that was National Heroes' Day. It's the President who declared today a non-working holiday. I stayed at home all day. I cleaned my room, rearranged the messy papers. I love papers! And I found this Vision Planner 2005. On its last page I read about "HOW TO BECOME A LIFELONG LEARNER". And I want to share it with you.

1. START WITH YOUR ATTITUDE- Lifelong learning begins with a heart that desires change, wisdom, and application.

2. ASK QUESTIONS- Learners ask good questions. They possess an insatiable curiosity-- a longing to know, discover, inquire. Ask questions that get below the surface.

3. JOIN OTHERS- Collaborative learning-- in classes, small groups, with friends and colleagues-- allow us to benefit from diverse perspectives and approaches. People are a gold mine of learning that is tapped through conversation.

4. CHECK OUT THE OTHER SIDE- Take time to examine and understand another point of view, even if it radically contradicts yours. You may see things in a new light or you may have your old convictions that have never been tested remain flabby.

5. READ BROADLY- Include a diversity of books, authors, and topics. Resist the temptation to read only those books that reinforce what you already believe.

6. KEEP A JOURNAL- Recording what we learn captures our growth in wisdom. (The good example is the blog. It's an online journal that is not only you who could read it but also others.)

7. EXPERIMENT- Try new approaches and ideas. Age does not affect your ability to learn. An-eight-year-old can learn to surf the net like an eighteen-year-old.

8. APPLY WHAT YOU KNOW- Our depth of understanding is often directly related to our ability to apply what we've learned. Application takes knowledge from the head to the heart.

I hope I can apply all of these.

BLEND OF MILK AND COFFEE

Coffee always makes me awake every time I feel sleepy in the office or at home during wee hours. But I am not a coffee addict. I drink milk every morning before going to work and in the evening before I sleep.

Coffee is one of the most beverages worldwide nowadays. It is a widely-consumed stimulant beverage prepared from roasted seeds that is commonly called coffee beans of the coffee plant drink by the coffee prince. Ha-ha.

Coffee was first consumed in the 9th century when it was discovered in the highlands of Ethiopia. Brazil is the world leader in production of green coffee followed by Vietnam, Indonesia, Colombia, Mexico and India. In the Philippines, the city of Amadeo is the coffee capital of the country. Lipa is where the first coffee was planted in the Philippines. Arabica is known for its good flavor and aroma. Benguet is one of the highest regions in the Philippines where this variety grows best. That’s why there’s this coffee called KAPENG BENGUET.

On the other hand, milk is an opaque white liquid produced by the mammary glands of female mammals. There are two distinct types of milk consumption: a natural source of nutrition for all infant mammals; and a food product for humans of all ages derived from other animals. The term milk is also used for whitish non-animal substitutes such as soy milk, rice milk, almond milk, and coconut milk.

Milk was first delivered in bottles on January 11, 1878. The day is now remembered as Milk Day and is celebrated annually. The town of Harvard, Illinois also celebrates milk in the summer with a festival known as Milk Days. Theirs is a different tradition meant to celebrate dairy farmers in the "Milk Capital of the World. There’s an expression too, it's "the milk of human kindness".

Are you a coffee or milk drinker?

STA. BARBARA CHURCH

STA. BARBARA CHURCH: This may be one of the better restored and preserved churches of Iloilo. The church is an excellent example of Filipino baroque colonial style built in 1845.

It is made of adobe, but in some places, coral and red bricks could also be found. The architecture is chiefly Romanesque with the prominence of arched windows and the box-like structure of the building.

When the church was hit by an earthquake, the facade and the long side walls survived. The overall church construction exemplifies a refined and advanced stage of building technology at this early period.

One more historical church to post. I will visit this church somewhere in nothern part of Iloilo one of these days. It is quite different if you visit and experience the place, right?

SAN JOAQUIN CHURCH

SAN JOAQUIN CHURCH: Built in 1869, San Joaquin Church is one of the most impressive works of art in terms of architectural design. Skilled masons, famous sculptors, celebrated painters and craftsmen from the Spain and Mexico were employed to translate the brilliant ideas of Fr. Tomas Santaren, the master architect. The pediment of the church reveals a landscape of palm trees with an army of horsemen and foot soldiers led by St. James, the moor slayer. This dynamic carving commemorates the victory of the Spanish over the Morccan forces at the Battle of Tetuan in 1859 in North Africa. Behind the appearance of this impressive masterpiece is a story of suffering. Forced labor was employed in the building and gathering of materials.

During the Muslim raids, the church was used as a fort. It was also used by the townspeople as an evacuation center during the Japanese occupation. However on January 29, 1943, the church was set on fire. IN 1948, an earthquake hit Panay that caused the tower to topple down. The national government declared the church as an historical landmark in 1974. Reconstruction and restoration started in 1982.

THE LASIK FACTS

Once I thought a question just in my mind after seeing two deaf-mutes talked to each other using sign language. If I have to choose only one of five senses to have or retain, I will choose the sense of sight. It is the considered the important and most complex of the five senses. You can appreciate most of the things that you can see. We have many features which protects the eye. The eyebrows which prevent sweat from running into them. The eyelashes help keep the eye clean by collecting small dirt and dust particles floating through the air. It also protect the eye from the sun’s and other light’s glare. The eyelids on the other hand, sweep dirt from the surface of the eye. It also protects the eyes from injury.

There are some people who unfortunately lost their sense of sight due to some circumstances, accident or blind since birth. And not all people have perfect vision. People who can see things up close but not far away are considered to be nearsighted and the opposite are farsighted. Whether a person is nearsighted or farsighted, glasses or contacts help him/her to see things much more clearly. But the most surgical alternative to wearing corrective eyeglasses or contact lenses is called LATIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis). It is a popular elective refractive laser eye surgery performed by ophthalmologists for the correction of myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. Using these advances in laser technology and the technical and theoretical developments in refractive surgery made since the 50’s. LASIK surgery was developed in 1990 by Lucio Buratto of Italy and Joannis Pallikaris of Greece. It quickly became popular and accepted because of its greater precision and lower frequency of complications compared to kerotomileusis and photorefractive keratectomy techniques. There are several necessary preparations in the preoperative, during and postoperative period. LASIK is performed in three steps. The first step is to create a flap of corneal tissue. The second step is remodeling of the cornea underneath the flap with the laser. And finally, the flap is repositioned. There are more LASIK information to know in order to have safety and better visual results. For more information just visit www.thelasikfacts.com.

TIGBAUAN CHURCH

TIGBAUAN CHURCH: Looking at it from the road, the church doesn't seem to generate that much interest. Its simple, almost angular facade and ungainly collection of belfries gives no hint of the remarkable Ilonggo artisanship inside. However, upon entering its doors, the visitor is rewarded by a rich tapestry of colorful mosaics adorning the whole interior walls of the church. Each of the fourteen Stations of the Cross are rendered in intricate mosaic work, giving one the impression of being in an art gallery rather that in a house of prayer. Everything then leads the eye to the central mosaic, soaring above the altar, of Christ presiding over a gathering of saints. It is an impressive masterpiece inside a church so unremarkable on the outside, yet bursting with art and revelation from within. I was baptized in this church and had my first communion here.

MIAG-AO CHURCH

Built between 1787 and 1797, ts fortress-like design suggests its dual purpose as a place of worship and as a fort used in defending the town against moro raiders at the time.

It is one of only four (Augustinian-built) churches in the country to make it to the prestigious UNESCO World Heritage List.
Its unique features include the unusual Aztec like bas-relief in the facade depicting St. Christopher carrying the baby Jesus through a tropical forest.
The adobe used in building the church is made from silt and clay that can only be found in this part of Iloilo, giving the building a unique warm-yellowish glow.
Also of note are the dissimilar designs of the two belfries, both were commissioned by two different parish priests
The church's simple interior is nevertheless highlighted by a striking gold-plated retablo.
