IT'S SUMMER, LET'S FLY A KITE!

When I was a kid, I fond of kite flying with my nephews. If you wonder how come, I have to tell you that my nephews and I are close in age. I am the youngest in the brood of eight. Anyway, It's summer again! I wish I could fly a kite with my son together with his cousins. (It sounds familiar. It's the line of Piolo Pascual in his Centrum commercial).

Filipino fathers and sons are fond of kite flying even kite fighting. Originally, the kite was first invented in China, where materials ideal for kite building were readily available: silk fabric for sail material, fine, high-tensile-strength silk for flying line, and resilient bamboo for a strong, lightweight framework. By at least 549 CE paper kites were being flown, as it was recorded in that year a paper kite was used as a message for a rescue mission.

Today's theme in Mixed Media Monday is "come fly with me". So I inspired to create a paper kite art for the challenge. It's really a good timing because it's summer season here in the Philippines.

Have a wonderful Monday everyone!

Red, maybe i am a girl kaya hindi ako nakalaro ng kites, hindi rin ako sumasama sa mga friends when they fly kites. But when i had a son, ayun, nauna pa akong mag-enjoy sa kanya...

'Come fly with me' ang theme? Huhmn.. Ano kaya ang ipapalipad ko kasama ang saranggola mo, Red?

Ang aking imahinasyon at mga pangarap?

Maganda ang kahulugan ng tema ng MMM, pati na rin ng iyong likha! o",)

I didn't know may anak ka na. Now I know, haha!

Di pa ako nakakapag fly ng kite! Di ako marunong. Ni yoyo na may string rin di ako marunong eh LOL.

I don't know if you have watched or read Kite Runner. In Afghanistan, they have Kite competitions too. All the participating kites are very colorful! They sort of have a battle on-air with other kites. The weakest kites fall down and people chase those kites! :)

Redlan, I love the piece you have done. I used to fly kites and remember making some with my uncles. I think we even used newspaper back then with rags for kite tails. This is a lovely trip back down memory lane.

PS. Good luck with the taxes! We do our own and every year declare that next time we will get a CPA.
