HERO

Today, Philippines is celebrating the EDSA Revolution. It is referred to as the People Power Revolution and the Philippine Revolution of 1986. It was a mostly nonviolent mass demonstration in the in the Philippines. EDSA stands for Epifanio de los Santos Avenue, a main way in Metro Manila and the main site of the demonstrations. I can say, Filipinos who part of the EDSA Revolution were heroes. As a matter of fact, there were a lot of heroes during 18 century. We have our own national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. He was a Filipino polymath, nationalist and the most prominent advocate for reforms in the Philippines during the Spanish colonial era. Rizal's 1896 military trial and execution made him a martyr of the Philippine Revolution.

This week's challenge in Mixed Media Monday is about a HERO. I still keep this postcard of Rizal's monument or park and a stamp of him.

Red, sikreto natin to, I don't like Jose Rizal being the national hero, if I were to choose, I'd pick Bonifacio.

Red, have you read any of Ambeth Ocampo's books on Rizal?? You should get one and, promise, you'll see Rizal in a different light! They're available at National Bookstore, I forgot the other titles na because I had those Ocampo books when I was in university. But the very first book I read was "Rizal Without the Overcoat".
