Guimaras is one of the exotic islands in the Philippines. Its original name was Himal-us but was changed to Guimaras after the folktale of the lovers named Princess Guima and the slave Aras, who defied tradition for their romance. Guimaras' claim to fame was that it was the late General Douglas MacArthur's first military assignment after graduation from West Point. Guimaras is the home of the famous and the best export-quality mangoes in the Philippines. Mango plantations with golden fruits are scattered in the island.
Guimaras is a veritable island paradise with its clear waters and white sand pebbles, and comfortable resorts tucked in between boulders. Its laid-back aura makes for a perfect retreat and meditation.

Alubihod Beach is one of the more popular resorts in Guimars. It can be accessed through a 15 -minute boat ride from Iloilo City to Jordan Wharf and a 45 min jeepney ride from Jordan Wharf or a 1hour boat direct from Iloilo City. Alubihod Beach ironically, is referred to as the "poor man's Boracay" but don't let it discourage you.

I had fun with my college friends @ Alubihod Beach last summer 1998 after our graduation.

I reunited with my high school friends in Alubihod Beach summer 2003.

The view of Rico Beach Resort. The whole area used to be called just Alubihod. However, when residents of the area who are all relatives to the first and second degree made good fortune in making a living of it, partitions were constructed and names attached on patches of land fronting the beach- the Raymen Beach, the Rico Beach and the Freelance Beach Resort.

Socsy, one of my college close friends was with me on Saturday night. We had a great night swimming at Raymen Beach Resort where I stay. She went home early in the morning the following day because she had to work on Sunday.

My high school friends (Robelyn & Emely) arrived passed seven in the morning. We strolled and had great bonding at Freelance Beach beside Raymen Beach Resort.

I had fun swimming with my officemates Sunday afternoon at Rico Beach which is located in the other side of Raymen Beach Resort.
ISLAND HOPPING EXPERIENCE UP NEXT....
