DUMAGUETE CITY- the city of gentle people

I was there November 20, 2004. I was with Ng Chuchi, my officemate. We spent just a night there with my other officemate, FRANCIS who had a bike race. I love the place and I want to visit again soon.

The name Dumaguete was coined from the Visayan world " daguit" which means "to snatch" or "kidnap". It originated from the time when Moro pirates frequently carried out marauding attacks on the place and snatched beautful native maidens. In 1572, Diego Lopez Povedano referred to the villages as Dananguet, but it was Murillo Velarde in 1734 who first gave its present name Dumaguete.

CLIMATE - The City has two seasons - dry and wet. The wet season is from June to November, and the dry season from December to May, April and May are the hottest months. ECONOMY - Dumaguete has an agricultural economy, it's major products being sugar, corn coconut, abaca, rice, root crops, fruits, vegetables and tobacco. Marine products include fish, squid, oysters, shrimps, prawns and mussels.

LIVELIHOOD - Farming, fishing, pottery making, cottage industries, footwear manufacture, weaving, RTW, and food processing.

had dinner in rizal boulivard. Rizal Boulevard - The boulevard along the waterside. Dr. Jose Rizal strolled through here during a stopover on his way to Dapitan. It is a hangout for both the locals as well as for tourists. Its a place to enjoy the spectacular sunrise and sunset.
